As long suspected, the next Star Trek series is Starfleet Academy. Paramount+ announced a series order for the latest addition to the Star Trek universe, which will “follow the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy.”
But when will this show take place? The full description offers a clue: This campus is going to be open “for the first time in over a century.”

The Academy re-opened in 3190, after the Burn, so presumably we’re in the Discovery timeline. The press release says nothing about the cast, so it’s not entirely clear whether Ensign Tilly (Mary Wiseman), who left the crew of Discovery to go teach at the Academy, features in the show. But why else would she vanish from her beloved crew?
Starfleet Academy has Star Trek mastermind Alex Kurtzman and Noga Laundau as its showrunners. The premiere episode is written by Gaia Violo, who is also an executive producer on the show (along with Kurtzman, Landau, Jenny Lumet, Rod Roddenberry, and a whole host of folks).
Few other details have been given, except that production begins in 2024, and the show features “a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.” Which is pretty par for the course for the 32nd century at this point.
